Hammer Tested: Sunline V1MDX Levers

If you ride dirt bikes long enough, sooner or later you will have your chance to crash test parts. Unfortunately you and I will never get paid for all our hard work we put into research and development of crash testing bike parts. One of the most common parts to become damaged during a crash is your clutch and brake levers as the impact tends to bend them into a fish hook or just break them completely off, therefore ruining your day of riding or costing you a podium spot.

The Sunline V-1 MDX brake and clutch levers have already saved me some frustration and have improved my riding experience while at the track. At $69.95 each they have proven to be worth the extra expense and the build quality is outstanding, not to mention the “factory bike bling” factor they add to your ride. Once installed the very first thing I noticed was the feel of the levers while working the clutch and brake with my fingers. The shape and feel of the levers definitely improved my bikes ergonomics overall as Sunline paid close attention to how the levers are machined and shaped.

Utilizing a multi-directional design allows your Sunline V-1MDX levers to move forward, up, and down as needed to prevent breakage. This eliminates the need of any complicated perches as the V-1 MDX levers mounted directly to my YZ250’s O.E.M clutch and brake perches. Installation was a snap, the levers fit like the O.E.M levers with zero issues.

Another very functional design feature is the wide range of adjustment each lever has. Based on the size of your hands or rider preference you can adjust the reach of each lever. This could be very useful if you’re installing these levers on your kid’s mini moto bike. The V-1 MDX levers are extremely light at only 4.3 ounces and come in four colors such as blue, red, black, and silver.

If you crash test these levers you will notice that there is only one positive detent for up and down and that is center. Once you gather yourself from going over the handle bars and got your bike picked up, you notice the lever is pointing straight up, one quick slap with your hand and the lever returns to the correct position every time. Forward movement the V-1 MDX levers are controlled by very strong spring that returns the levers to its adjusted position without any rider effort. Both up, down, and forward pivot points are strong and solid with zero free play so they don’t flop around.

To wrap it up, the Sunline V-1 MDX levers have all the modern features you’d expect and desire. Both clutch and brake levers have very smooth spring loaded pivot points that are direct bolt on replacement to your O.E.M levers. The levers are light, adjustable, and packed with performance and functional design. Sunline guarantees each lever with a five year warranty. Nothing is perfect right? The V-1 MDX is perfect minus one little detail. My O.E.M brake lever dust cover will not fit over the V-1 MDX brake lever. The dust cover is a big help in reducing dirt from collecting around the pivot point of the brake lever, so this adds a little bit more maintenance, but hey there dirt bikes and everything requires preventive maintenance on these things right? With that the V-1 MDX levers take a small hit in the Design/Fit category only because I’m picky about that dust cover. Hands down one of the best aftermarket bolt on parts you can buy.
