Goggle Cleaning Tips

When it comes to MX goggles there is only one brand that Dirt Hammers will wear and that is Spy goggles. We have been using them for over 8 years and still have the original pair we started with. Some of the key features are listed below. Spy goggles are the most comfortable and most durable goggles on the market.

  • Anti-fog Lexan® lenses
  • Triple layer Isotron™ face foam featuring moisture-wicking Dri-Force™ fleece
  • Patented Scoop® ventilation system for increased anti-fog protection
  • Scratch-resistant lens with built-in tear-off posts
  • Silicone ribbing to hold the strap in place

During the last 8 years we have found a great way to care for your Spy goggles (or any other brand you may have) to keep them looking and function their best. Sit back and take a few minutes to learn a simple goggle cleaning tip.

Step 1.

If your goggles are muddy just rinse the heavy stuff off the goggles outside with the water hose before you get started. Next find your laundry detergent (ask your wife where she keeps it) and then head toward the kitchen or shop sink.

Step 2.

Fill the sink with warm water and add about 1-2 oz of your laundry detergent into the running water. We use the liquid detergent but powered detergent works just fine.

Step 3.

Place the goggles into the detergent / water mix and let them soak for a few minutes.

Step 4.

Agitate the goggles for a few minutes or until clean. Watch as the water will start to turn dirty and the goggles become clean.

Step 5.

Take a paper towel and dip it into the water / detergent mix and lightly wash the lens front and back side. This is the safest and best way to clean the lens and not scratch it.

Step 6.

Rinse the goggles off with cold water. Take your time to make sure you have all the detergent rinsed from the foam.

Step 7.

Final step is to hang your goggles on a hanger and let them air dry. But make sure it’s a safe place, you don’t want your moto buddies exchanging their dirty goggles for your clean ones.

Side Note: The tips listed above can work for any brand of goggles. We featured Spy goggles because we believe they are the best on the market period. The above goggle cleaning tip will help you maximize the life of your goggles and keep them looking like new for many years.

Nice goggle cleaning tip. I have always thrown mine in the washing machine and the foam and glue don’t last that long.
