Matthew Taylor age 21 lives in Gilbert, SC. Rides a 2007 YZ 250 2-stroke that he and his dad prepped for HS’s. That’s a four year old bike getting it done against the factory bikes and giving Matthew the hole at an National Hare Scramble event. The suspension is by Troy Crisp of BDR Suspension, which is a big help for Matthew to be able to handle a chopped up race course. Matthew has come up through the SETRA series riding HS’s and enduro’s. He has won C, B, and A class championships and is getting stronger each event.
This is his first year riding the AA class. This year he is mainly riding SETRA HS’s with just a couple local enduro’s. He also plans to do the SORCS series after riding the first race in that series. Currently in 4th place for the year end points race in the AA class for SETRA HS’s.
He is not a lucky as a lot of the other Factory guys, Matthew works a full time job at Carolina Scales as a scale technician. So the only time he gets to ride and train is on the weekends. You got to love the working class heroes of this great sport of ours.

Matthew is not alone on race day as his brother Jamie Taylor is putting in the hard work and it’s showing on race day. Jamie is 18 and is a senior in high school. He is riding 250 A Class. But because of high school sports, he has rode a limited season this year. However he is just as fast, if not faster than Matthew. Jamie and Grant Baylor have had some great battles and close races in the 250 A class this year. Once he is done with sports, look for Jamie to really pick it up his race program.
So next time you’re out at the races keep an eye for these two up coming young men, and wish them well on their young careers. We can only imagine Eddie Taylor (father, bike tech, pit crew, bike washer, etc) has his hands full with these two young men chasing the off-road dream and we all know they couldn’t do it without Mom.
